White Balance

Our eyes have the ability to instantly recognize white under many lighting conditions, for instance, a white car looks white to us in a showroom with fluorescent lighting and outside  in sunny or cloudy weather. A camera lacks this ability, although the auto white balance setting on some cameras comes very close. Every digital camera I have used has a preset white balance for common lighting sources, but often times you’ll be faced with a combination of lighting sources in the same scene. Some cameras can use a white card as a target to customize a white balance setting, or the color can be corrected in a photo editing program.
